Summer Employment Opportunity
We are seeking exceptional upper class students to serve as SPECTRA LEADers for the thirty-fifth annual SPECTRA/SCAMP programs. In addition, selected student LEADers will serve as peer-mentors during the fall semester.
Students applying for a LEADer position must complete the general application, provide an unofficial college transcript, a cover letter expressing interest, résumé, and two references; one of which should come from a professor.
The SPECTRA summer transition program for underrepresented and/or first generation students is scheduled during Summer II Day Session beginning on July 12, and ending on August 15, 2015. SPECTRA and SCAMP are intended to provide up to 100 incoming freshmen with academic and social transitional experiences prior to their arrival at the College prior for the fall semester.
SPECTRA LEADers are expected to be available to work during the entire session of the SPECTRA summer program, plus attend the required training sessions. SPECTRA LEADers must not take any classes or have an outside job during the Summer II session, as it will interfere with your duties as a LEADer.
The SPECTRA program is tremendously rewarding for incoming freshmen, yet it is very intense. SPECTRA LEADers will reside in the residence halls and will be on call 24 hours per day with the exception of nights off each week as determined by the Head SPECTRA LEADer(s). LEADers are expected to participate in the program beyond their residence hall duties. Accordingly, applicants for LEADer positions should realize that confidentiality is a required trait and that it takes an enormous amount of commitment of your time and energy to help make this program successful for each student.
